Not my favorite but it’s got some character. I get a bit of a mineral and a hint of pepper that lingers a bit too long for my taste. But what throws me off is the alcohol bite that overpowers the rest. A bit too rough around the edges, for my taste. Good for cocktails though where you can mask that with something sweet or sour.
On the nose, I’m hit with floral and herbal aromas. I taste vanilla and citrus zest. Smooth, low smokiness. There is a lot to unpack, I like the complexity of this mezcal. Not too bold, so you can actually taste the different nuances. If you’re like me and like a subtle yet complex sip, give this one a try.
I don’t like all of the Alipus expressions, but San Luis is a true gem. I taste kiwi, green melon, and citrus. Unlike its cousins, this one’s got a smooth, almost creamy texture. A perfect everyday sipper, it’ll be a staple in my home bar from now on.
I had this during a mezcal tasting tour in Oaxaca and loved it. Smoky and sweet, complex profile, one of my favorite espadins in that price range!
Hits the nose pretty hard. Not very smoky. A bit too much bite for my taste, but nonetheless still a decent mezcal.
There is surprisingly much going on for an espadin! Sweet, smoky (but not too much), pepper and fruits. Price to value ratio is on point!
