Founded by Marcos Mendoza, Mala Idea Mezcal is a celebration of passion and adventure. The name, translating to "Bad Idea", reflects the brand's commitment to sourcing the ripest and most mature agaves, regardless of the challenges. Their mezcal is handcrafted in micro-batches, using semi-cultivated/wild Espadin to truly wild agaves like Tobala, Cuishe, and Tepextate. The production process is traditional, roasting piñas in an earthen oven, crushing them with a 1.5-ton tahona wheel, and utilizing open-air fermentation with ambient wild yeasts. The spirit is then double and triple distilled in vintage copper stills. This commitment to tradition and quality makes Mala Idea a truly unique mezcal experience.
