Gusano Rojo Mezcal, a family-owned brand with three generations of history, is one of Mexico's most popular mezcals. Originating over 50 years ago, Jacobo Lozano Páez aimed to create a unique mezcal recognized worldwide. Produced in Oaxaca, Mexico, using traditional methods and 100% Espadin agave, Gusano Rojo is admired and sold globally. The brand's name, which translates to "Red Worm," comes from the worm sometimes found in the agave plant, considered a delicacy with aphrodisiac properties in Oaxaca. While the worm was once used to test mezcal quality, it's now more of a symbol, though Spanish law prevents the sale of mezcal with the worm inside the bottle.
