Los Vecinos del Campo Mezcal, a project led by Carmen Villarreal of Casa San Matías and backed by the Sazerac Company, is a testament to the craftsmanship of 10 master mezcaleros from the Valles Centrales region of Oaxaca. The brand, which launched its Espadin mezcal in 2018, followed by Tobala and Ensamble No. 1 in 2019, is known for its unique flavor profiles. The Ensamble No. 1, for instance, is a blend of 90% Espadin, 5% Barril, and 5% Madrecuishe, offering a complex mix of chamomile, dill pickle, green tea, and black pepper aromas, with tasting notes of honey, soy sauce, and black pepper. This brand stands out for its commitment to traditional methods and the diversity of its offerings.
